Climate Week NYC - DRAWDOWN

When we attended the before-hours tour of the AMNH's Climate Change exhibit, we met two very gracious environmental educators who gave us two tickets to a sold-out event featuring two keynote speakers, Lynne Twist and Dr. Katherine Wilkinson, and a discussion of the 2017 NY Times Bestseller, Drawdown, moderated by none-other than one of the most well-known and influential environmentalists, Bill McKibben. The panel discussion featured Chad Frischmann (VP and Research Director, Project Drawdown), Karen Washington (food justice activist and urban farmer), Dan Zarrilli (Senior Director, Climate Policy & Programs and Chief Resilience Officer, New York City Office of The Mayor), and Lauren Zullo (Sustainability Officer, Jonathan Rose Companies). Drawdown is unique in that it frames the discussion of climate change and what we can do about it in a POSITIVE, empowering way based on actual MATH and SCIENCE!

To say that Sarah and I left this event feeling enlightened and inspired would be an understatement! The event was live-streamed, but, sadly, the video link doesn't include key points from the beginning of the event. Nevertheless, this video link picks up at Dr. Wilkinson's very engaging presentation. Stay tuned for how we will educate the Magnet community and beyond about the 100 Solutions! To get started, we'll be training our Greens Club members to become unofficial, informal Project Drawdown "ambassadors" at an invite-only, live-streaming of a Drawdown Learn event for Greens Club members on Friday, October 19th from 6:30-9 PM, CST. For more information, contact Dionne Procell-Brown at dmprocell@caddoschools.org. Follow Project Drawdown on Instagram. As Project Drawdown recites, "We know the solutions. Project Drawdown has done the math. IT’S NOT GAME OVER. IT’S GAME ON."
